This is great advice if you are the one giving it, isn’t it? Actually taking time to relax and refresh in the demanding rush of activity around the holidays is another matter. I’m asking you to shift your focus and perspective by taking what the poet Maya Angelou called “A Day Away.”
Maybe you have only an afternoon or just a half hour, but you can follow your inclinations and use your observation skills instead of opening your wallet, just like Chris and I did, gathering inspiration at the end of Autumn in the pleasant town of Bristol, Rhode Island on a very, very chilly day.
Bright yellows and oranges, crisp blue sky, tree-lined streets, a cup of coffee in pleasant company.
We walked up Hope Street and turned towards Thames, browsing the shops and breathing in the brisk Bay breeze off the harbor.
A brief afternoon escape with very little talk of work, lots of fresh air and walking refreshed our perspective and we drove home with buoyant spirits.
